David Goa delivers the eulogy at the funeral of Bishop Varlaam

On the 13th of February Vladika Varlaam entered the Eternal. Many gathered for his funeral at All Saints of North America monastery in Dewdney, British Columbia and his burial in the Heritage Gardens Cemetery in Surrey, B.C.

Vladika Lazar asked David Goa to give a eulogy Sunday morning following the liturgy.

Vladika Varlaam was born in 1935, near Buchanan, in east-central Saskatchwan. His parents were Russians of the "Old Believer" and "Doukhobor" ancestry, members of families that had immigrated from the Caucasus region in south Russia to the region of Verigin, Saskatchwan in 1899. He studied Slavic languages and culture at the University of Alberta and taught the Russian language for some time.
In 1968, after a visit to Mount Athos, Greece, he joined Lev Puhalo in the founding of the monastery of the Monastery of All Saints of North America in British Columbia, Canada. He was tonsured in 1981, ordained to the Holy Diaconate in 1983 and then to the Holy Priesthood. In 1994 he was ordained to the Holy Episcopate and given the title Bishop of Vancouver.
