When People Collide: Free Speech vs. Hate Speech

What is free speech? What happens when one person's speech offends another? Who gets to decide where the line is drawn? Join in a lively discussion about the hard-won battle for Freedom of Speech, inalienable rights and what happens when free speech collides with other “universal human rights”.

Join me at the Central Lions Seniors Centre,
11113 – 113 Street, Edmonton for the following conversations:

29 September Thursday, 1:30 – 3:00
Residential Schools, Modernity, and Remembering Well

Are residential schools Canada’s foundational tragedy, our original sin? How did churches become servants to modernity’s vision? What of a Papal apology? What was the Canadian states interest? How have all settler peoples profited? Is it possible to make ‘reparations’ for the sins of the past? Reparations: what might it look like and who decides? What is really meant by “reconciliation.” Are we all responsible for everyone and everything?

David Goa focuses on deepening the capacity of the faithful to think through the gifts of their traditions: the spiritual life, the theological traditions and our responsibility to the public world. Supporters help him continue to do this important work.
